In Term 3 you will be asked to adapt part of Much ado about Nothing. This may include translating the language, producing a short film, making a comic strip, writing a monolgue, creating a short story, putting on a drama etc – the posibilities are pretty open.

In your word document breifly discuss how you think you might like to adapt Shakespeare and discuss why – which of your strenghts are you using, what skills will you be developing, what message do you think it will present, how will it make Shakespeare more engaging etc.

This should be around 300 words.

NOTE: This is not your final decision, but about getting your thought process organised.

Read through this summary of Much ado about Nothing.

You will notice Much ado about Nothing is driven, at least in part, by deception – intentional or not.

We have all experienced the results of deception, and probably been the deceivers on many occasions.

In your work document write a recount (a story from your personal experience) based around the idea of deception.

Like Shakespeare, modern authors are influenced (and compelled) by the issues surrounding them.

Use the following list (plus independent research) to create a table (in the same format as your previous table) explaining what some of the major influences are now (or within the last decade). You should have at least five – each named and described/explained.

This may include things such as: The World Financial Crisis, Terrorism, natural disasters, pop-culture icons etc

Like in Task 1 briefly suggest how you think these things may be influencing modern authors and how they may influence you in your adaption of Much Ado.

Shakespeare responded to the events, people and society surrounding him as he wrote. He produced his plays and poems as a reflection, and often, a critique of what he saw.

Use the links below (and your own, independent research) to create a summary of the major influences. In your word document create a table with the influences listed in the the left hand column, and a description of what the influence was.

Underneath your table give a brief (up to 200 word) summary of how you think Shakespeare may have been influenced by these things.

Your table should include the following, plus any others you find and feel are important.
